P38 gems dipstick
I bought my 4.6 gems V8 engine without oil dipstick and tube and i must buy them, as i understood: Engine equipped with secondary air injection Needs LQM100920 -715 mm lenght dipstick coupled to LQN101150 tube; Engine without SAI Needs err4905 - 655mm lenght dipstick coupled to LQN101060 tube. Which...

intake air temperature sensor fitting
Good afternoon, 4.6 GEMS V8 with cold air intake and canems ECU. Looking for the correct place to fit air temperature sensor (bosch NTC), i was thinking about drill and tap it directly into intake plenum (after the throttle body) to have the most correct temperature reading before air enters into en...

Gems vacuum circuit
Good morning folks, I've some doubt connecting vacuum system in my Tomcat. As shown in pics, i found 4 vacuum takeoffs, 2 in trumpet base and 2 in plenum. Take off nr. 1, left hand side of the plenum: unknown, maybe is part of idle circuit? Take off nr. 2, left hand side of the plenum: connection of...

Re: Crank position sensor spacer
Tnx Dave, in fact the magnetic pin is already perfectly centered between the two circles of metal plates (in gems engine, the 36-1 metal plates that trigger the engine are vertically fitted in two concentric circles in the flywheel). The spacer just regulate how much the magnetic pin of the sensor w...

Re: Crank position sensor spacer
Or, alternatively, someone knows how deep the magnetic tip of crank position sensor must go deep into reluctor wheel?

Crank position sensor spacer
Good afternoon, i just bought a crank position sensor (ERR3006 code) for my 4.6 gems - manual trasmission, but it came without the indispensable spacer.
Does anybody knows the thickness of this spacer, in pics seems like 2.5-3.0 mm...

Lt77/r380 optimal working temperature
Which is the optimal oil working temp on R380/LT77 gearboxes that are frequently mated to our RV8?
I'm planning to fit a Laminova gearbox oil cooler (that works as heater in cold climates), so gearbox oil temp will be in some way linked to coolant temp at about 85 °C.

Re: V8 GEMS oil cooler lines size
Bypass oil line, that bypass oil cooler connectig directly pump to filter, seems to be more than 10mm diameter (really not easy to measure it). So probably the way is to plug the front cover oil inlet and outlet, remove bypass spring valve (to allow permanent full flow) and fit an oil filter take of...

Re: V8 GEMS oil cooler lines size
Engine is fitted in Tomcat 100 off-road, i use it both in and off-road.
I want fit laminova water/oil cooler because it'll help also engine warming during winter (i live nearby mountains...).
Almost all land rovers v8 has oil cooler, that's why i decided to not delete it...

V8 GEMS oil cooler lines size
Good morning, i'm fitting a Laminova oil/water cooler on a 4.6 GEMS. To keep a nice look without fitting take off plate, i decidet to use original oil cooler input and output originally fitter in timing cover. Stock oil cooler use 1/2" rubber lines (quite acceptable size, but most V8 aftermarket kit...

Simplify coolant circuit
Good afternoon, i'm trying to simplify coolant system on my tomcat 100 powered by a front mounted 4.6 gems and cooled by 2 rear mounted radiators. I removed complex p38 coolant sistem and fitted an internal thermostat just before the elbow, like older land rovers. The idea is: A) connect exit 1 to t...

Re: 4.6 rover v8 gems oil flow
I just discovered that somewhere (don't know where, neither the item code or at which temp it opens) there is an "oil cooler relief valve" (p38 manual call it like this). Someone else, speaking about serp engine from 93 to 2002, says that there is a "bypass valve" that at certain pressure force the ...

Re: 4.6 rover v8 gems oil flow
Is true, oil cooler il before radiator so it takes cold air.
I can't imagine that a car born to be used in cool environment has not a system to bypass oil cooler since oil temp reaches at least 80 ℃.
Surely the trick is in timing cover, as u said...
