I'm guessing that after a long journey on LPG - with no petrol 'cooling' the carb - the carb will be fairly hot. Now if you substitute 'hot engine' for 'Carburetor fire', this makes sense: 6) Why Floats collapse after a Carburetor Fire: If you have a carburetor backfire, and the carburetor is burnin...

I heard that on modern plugs, the ceramic insulator in not 'glazed' any more - so once they're fouled, they're fouled.

EFI in modern engines doesn't foul them up, so the glaze is 'no longer needed'.

1 vote for Pertronix Ignitor kit (same as Aldon Ignitor) I suggested RetroRockets in Connecticut for buying Pertronix stuff a while ago. You order from the US site and pay the US dollar prices, plus a bit of shipping, but the kit is delivered from a UK warehouse. So .. I put my money where my mouth ...

Did I read somewhere that Mallory often found that 'condensor problems' were down to a coating on new condensors - it needed to be cleaned off with emery cloth to get a good contact? Found it (on the RPi site): First, we have seen problems when a customer replaces a condenser. If he continues to reu...

John, I have the normal single prong oil pressure switch in the lower position on oil pump housing - that is connected to the dash oil light. But above that, in the upper sender position, I do have the three-pronged canister type sender - currently not connected up to anything. As I don't have an oi...

RV8 alternator ID ?

How to ID this alternator please? (fitted to Rover V8 ) It sounds like the bearings are going in my alternator. It doesn't look like the units shown in my SD1 or 3500 Haynes manuals, but does look like some Lucas pics I've seen. Anywhere to look to find the make/model/power rating? There are some re...
