Re: Replacing a blade fuse with an MCB; radiator fans.

To update this: the connectors to the flying leads for both fan motors were high resistance, wiggle a connector and that fan started, wiggle the other connector and the other fan started as well. Both connectors replaced = reliable fan operation, although needs checking on a run. The lock-up is a bi...

@ DaveEFI, I don't know what I did with the previous PM, but it's not in my sent box, another PM sent to you which is stuck in the PM outbox https://i.postimg.cc/FHWgdvQC/V8-Forum-23092022.jpg I think I have your email address somewhere @ChrisJC I would prefer a dashboard that is designed for good a...

Re: Replacing a blade fuse with an MCB; radiator fans.

Thanks for the replies. I'd forgotten about motor inrush currents, and I now recall fitting "slow blow" fuses many years ago to small electric motor control circuits (not automotive), these were glass cartridge fuses with a coiled fuse wire inside. https://i.postimg.cc/bJZPTShS/slow-blow-fuse.jpg Re...

Replacing a blade fuse with an MCB; radiator fans.

The 25A fuse for the radiator fans on my TVR 350i has blown destructively, the fuse holder type is: https://i.postimg.cc/xT7srtXq/Blade-type-fuse-holder.jpg The fuse holder will need replacing. The reason for the fuse blowing is currently unknown, although the car sat unused for a couple of years, t...

Re: 1985 TVR 350i, stabilised voltage for instruments?

To update this, the wire from the gauge to the sensor must be damaged, I've grounded the output terminal from the gauge and seen full scale deflection, I've also temporarily run a wire from the output terminal of the gauge over the windscreen and connected to the sensor, the gauge works although app...

">Did you ground the sensor for some time? Hotwire gauges move slowly. <"

Probably grounded for a couple of minutes, so I'll re-visit that.

Thanks for the offer of the revised drawing, PM on the way to you

1985 TVR 350i, stabilised voltage for instruments?

Greetings all I'm waking up my TVR 350i (RV8 with flapper) after a long rest, the temperature gauge isn't working but the fuel gauge is (both VDO gauges). The single wire to the temperature gauge sensor in the block measures as 7v when disconnected from the sensor (this isn't the temperature sensor ...

Ramon Albon RIP

http://www.vintagemodelairplane.com/ In his eighties when he died. My RV8s x 3 have been resting for a while, mainly due to being pissed off with a Stag (again), also a poor work / life balance for a couple of years up to March 2020, and then the same boat as most of the UK. Probably need to retire ...

Finally got back to this, can't see any part numbers without dismantling, so I've bought the Redline CV-2 Synthetic Grease, operating temp up to 500'F is hopefully enough

Thanks SuperV8,

The 75W90 will be for the front bearing (it has an oil reservoir), there is a grease nipple for the rear bearing. I'll have a look for part numbers

Sprintex S/C, what grease?

Hi All, The Sprintex supercharger on one of my RV8s has been running well for 10k+ miles in my ownership. I have changed the oil for the front bearing, I should probably grease the rear bearing. Can't find much info re: grease spec, so I'm probably going to use Red Line CV-2 synthetic grease, commen...

The float bowls measure at 55'C, is this likely to cause an issue?

RV8 SUs, induction temperature

Hi All, RV8 in a Stag, K&N cone type filter bolted onto each carb, laser thermometer shows that filter temperature is around 65'C after a run with the engine idling and the bonnet up. Is this excessively high? Still lots to fettle, but the engine is noticeably livelier on cooler days. I'm can probab...

Thanks for the replies. Not possible to get a straight strike on the cap due to poor access, which can't help with alignment. I'll probably try the Dirko sealant.
