I did the same - then soon after realised I wasn't going to be using a distributor.

Should be fine.

If you were using a Lucas flapper you'd want to fit a Jaguar airflowmeter to go with it, but with hotwire it should just be a bolt-on upgrade, as long as the throttle pot transfers straight over.

I insured my ZX12R with gas, moving from a 'normal' insurance policy to giving Flux a list of mods a page long including gas, and it was actually cheaper than the original mainstream policy (which had many years of no claims). Went down from about £350 to £280 I think, though admittedly the excess w...

Forum Discount - Wizards of NoS Nitrous Oxide Gear

My main business is motorcycle tuning but I have a long (too long) passion for V8s and nitrous, so while I sell nitrous gear for bikes as a Wizards agent, I also stock quite a bit of car nitrous stuff. I have most things on the shelf and can get anything else at fairly short notice. Discount to the ...

synthetic oil is good but not at 5-6 times the cost. In some gearbox applications, trials on synthetics have seen lifespans extended by 500%. At the least, you can expect to double the life of a gearbox by running it on synthetic. I'd say synthetic oil works out pretty cheap. (The same goes with en...

In the case of both boxes, just use synthetic engine oil - that's what anybody who's worked on the technical side of the oil industry does. The ATF recommendations in LT77 boxes only came originally when Rover had trouble with heavy gearchanges when the oil was cold, so switched to an ATF recommenda...

Re: Piston weight and engine balancing

There is a factory tolerance during engine balancing ? Very unlikely as factory-built engines are generally not balanced at all. Production processes and casting accuracy have improved over the years, so modern-built engines are often not too bad, but with older Rover V8 engines, the variations in ...

Catalyst cell sizes

Not for a Rover V8, but for a Jaguar XKR. The car was fitted with aftermarket exhaust and freeflow cats, 200cpsi as opposed to normal 400cpsi (cells per square inch). The substrate has broken down in the cats I have, so I'm buying universal replacement sports cats and welding my inlet/outlet pipes o...

Rather than an engine-out dyno, have you considered looking for yor nearest rolling road - that should give you a printout of fuelling as well as power/torque curves, and identify any ignition issues.

Ramon's post above is spot-on (and I think he may have been referring to chats we had on the SD1 Club forum). Rover's reason for putting ATF in the gearbox was simply because they got it wrong in the first place when the box was built. It had a horrible clunky change when cold with normal oils - fil...

Just curious, what mods has it had to make 220 at the wheels? That's doing well for a 3.5. Was that rolling road someone you trust? Maybe the 220 was exaggerated? If it's running too hot that could cause loss of power. If the compression tests results haven't changed then that would tell me the val...

I bought an item on ebay and had difficulty getting down to collect it, but he just wasn't interested in helping by wrapping it for postage.

He's black listed in my book.

In a few months I'll be wanting to make up a system to run from 2.25" collectors to a 3 or 3.25" main pipe, then split into 2.25 or 2.5" tailpipes.

Would you be able to produce the bends I need from cardboard templates or sketches?

Re: Highest torque / cid ?

If I understand correctly, torque numbers from rollers are neither very easy to compare.... nor repeatable on different dynos. I don't see why - as long as it's a reputable dyno being run by a good operator and he enters the correct air temp and pressure. If it's on a known type of car, the etsimat...
