Re: Oil Warning light on !
just been thinkin about this . Seems that the packing with vaseline is the go to prime the pump . Is there any reason why one couldnt strategically fit a grease nipple to the pump cover to make priming easier .....specially if you have to do it often . If you had a choice ( I do ) would you use the...

Re: 3.9V8 Timing Cover on a 4.6V8
Hey lets stop the discussion on EDIS and dizzy-less ignition right here - lets stick to questions I have asked and not divert. I am not interested in going this route at the moment. To those who have tried to provide information on the main topic - thanks. I had not considered that there would be i...

Re: 3.9V8 Timing Cover on a 4.6V8
Given that you presumably already have: A toothed wheel on the crank An EDIS module 2 coil packs - Mounted and correcct length leads I'd have though it would be much easier (possibly cheaper) to simply add in an ECU to control the ignition. This would be much better than a distributor system. Perso...

Re: Speedo Drive Location- Rover V8
Why not have the Gauge recalibrated? https://www.speedycables.com/speedometer-calibration/ Although I'm getting on quite well with my electronic/mechanical speedo' drive it is unforutnately taking place to several other projects so I may look into going this way myself. I fancy the electronic idea ...

Re: Car not starting
Hi. Will be third set of plugs in 6 months! Humm, third set of plugs in 6 months? That sounds like you've either done a heck of a lot of miles or it wasn't running quite as fine as you first said. Could it be something has been working badly and has not progressed? If you're getting a good spark th...

Re: Baffling ignition problem
When installed in the vehicle how does it behave if you take a live feed directly from the battery? If that works OK it would point to a problem in the wiring anywhere between the battery to the coil via things like the ignition switch, fuse box and any connectors. Possibly an alternator issue could...

Re: Rover v8 3.5 no compression #5
Thanks to all for the posts. I forgot to post the pics. Here we go Were the other 3 piston tops so clean when the head was removed or have they been cleaned? Bit weird really, one seems too dirty but the others seem too clean particularly given the colour of the heads. Looks a bit like the exhaust ...

Re: Rover v8 3.5 no compression #5
Is the piston actually moving up/down the bore? If I understood correctly you have the head of so presumably no big hole in the crown? If the valves are not obviously open you should be getting some compression even at cranking speed, hard to imagine losing all your air via a partially open valve, ...

Re: Speedo Drive Location- Rover V8
Photo would be a great idea. Personally I'd go down the electronic route, much more flexible and should be possible to easily re-calibrate. My car has a mechanical speedo but since building I've changed the 'box which has different speedo' gearing and the diff' ratio so now reads out, I'm currenlty ...

Re: LT77/R380 interchangeability..
I only have experience of the 2WD version of the box and I think they differ in that area but I'd say you'd struggle to mix and match. On the 2WD the rear case is significantly different, a fair bit larger. I think this is due to the reverse gears being sited in that casing on the R380 IIRC this is...

Re: Bellhousing for Mazda mx5 box to Rover V8
The "RPI" kit is just the Vitesse kit: https://www.vitesse-ltd.com/products/mgb-v8-5-speed-mazda-gearbox-conversion-kit?variant=21482018439251 Don't know if they've just got the wrong photo there but the BH on that 'box does not look like the V8 pattern, the RPI one does. Thinks it's just a generic...

Re: Bellhousing for Mazda mx5 box to Rover V8
Just had a look at the RPi offering. Looks like they sell it as a conversion (at £4.6k) which seems to be specific to the MGB. May not be too bad if you have a top spec' MGB worth plenty of money but it's a fair chunk of change otherwise. From the photo's it looks like the front casing of the 'box ...
