Re: 4.6 Build.. Spec ideas?q1
Ongoing bearing problems with Connaught.. Supplied me a set of rod bearing for an SD1, went back up there Friday and sorted it out. Also sorted the proper thrust bearing. Had the crank measured by someone else, the thrust faces are standard width. The thrust supplied was 10 thou over and when it spr...

Re: LT77 to R380 swap
I would go the diff route imo.. I run a 7” 3.14 Sierra diff with a R380 in my seven, which is fine. They are a little tricky to get hold of, though you can get a new gear set and the diff rebuilt if it’s not an original 3.14. Road and race did mine, shoved a qualified ATB in at the same time. A bit ...

Re: 4.6 Build.. Spec ideas?
Picked up the crank today, all seems to measure up. All journals have been ground +20. Now got the right bearings to suit. Despite both old and new thrusts measuring the same width, new one fits and the old one doesn’t. Very odd. Anyhow now surplus to requirements if anyone is interested in a fresh ...

Re: 4.6 Build.. Spec ideas?
The company (Connaught) that ground the crank are now saying they gave me the wrong bearings, they should be +20 which doesn’t make sense as they would be more oversize and less likely to fit. Popped the Turners and spoke to the engine builder. He said sometimes king bearing come up slightly oversiz...

There is no end float clearance to allow the crank to drop into the bearings, requiring a small amount of persuassion. To turn the crank I have to use a 3ft breaker bar. I removed the thrust bearing and reassembled and it’s fine, rotating nicely. The end float clearance needs looking it. There’s no ...

The ARP cross bolts are all 5 mm too short compared with the standard ones. Hey ho. The crank is way too tight also. Took out the middle thrust bearing and it’s fine so it seems there is no end float or tolerance at all. Anyone know if over size bearings are oversize for the thrust face as well? I d...

Started the final build. Using ARP mains bolts with cross bolts. The cross bolts seem very short, most only needing three turns to tighten, that’s without the dowty washers. Anyone tell me the length of the normal cross bolts? I guess some of the threads in the caps start deeper than others. Will ta...

Sounds like the thermostat is sitting in cold water and not activating, might be caused by the changes you’ve made to the system ie the heater bypass not being connected. It’s eventually opening with heat conduction because of the high temps. Then shutting again quickly once cooled from the rad side...

Engine slowly coming together, stripped bottom end and found a knackered bearing so crank is away being looked at, awaiting an outcome. Going for 4.0 pistons, compression works out about 10.5:1 Threw the heads on to check valve to piston clearance, got over 6mm with the 4.6 pistons. Should have enou...

440's going back, too much messing about with 4 cylinder turbo lumps which run huge injectors compared with the V8. Going to start with 26lb injectors (275cc) and go from there. I understand the ain't broke why fix it approach on the regulator. I was going with an adjustable one with the aim to run...
