Re: PCV valve for RV8
Thank you for the suggestion and I'm still churning this over in my mind. I'm not a mechanic so just using my own logic here. I believe my system needs a PCV valve because the air entering the crank has not been metered by the Sniper EFI unit (other than resulting AFR via the O2 exhaust sensor). In ...

Re: PCV valve for RV8
Thank you for the information regarding your Thor system, very interesting. I would assume that although your fresh air comes from the inlet of the filter is all part of the metered air and therefore not an issue with regards to the air fuel ratio. Unfortunately I have what I would term as a univers...

PCV valve for RV8
Good Afternoon, I have a 4.6 Rover V8 with Holley Sniper EFI fitted into a Dax Rush kit car. For a while now I have been plagued by an intermittent high idle rpm issue. This can be 1200 to 2500 rpm while at idle or when changing gear. The sniper idle is set via an Idle Air Control (IAC) screw while ...

Pre Serpentine Oil Pump body plate
Hi every one. It's been a while since I last posted but I could do with some advice please. I recently bought a new original Rover Oil pump plate to fit my SD1 front cover; however, I was surprised to find that the thread that the filter screws onto is actually 13/16" UNF and not the same as my exis...

Re: Single terminal oil pressure switch for Rover SD1 V8?
Many thanks Dave for your valued feed back. From your comments I agree that the single terminal switch controlling a fuel pump relay would be the better solution and that is the way I will go.
Thanks again
Allan

Re: Single terminal oil pressure switch for Rover SD1 V8?
Hi all, I have a Dax Rush with a 4.6 RV8 using an SD1 front end and oil pump. I would like to introduce the fuel pump cut off safety feature and from previous posts it would appear that I have two options. 1.) Buy a 3 terminal oil pressure switch is a quick solution for circa £25. (I have found a ne...

Re: MSD Pro-Billet advice please
Thanks Guys, I appreciate your input and lots of good info for me to mull over. Going back to my original subject and for anyone considering buying a MSD Pro-Billet 8548 distributor for a Rover V8, the following is my considered opinion. 1. It is a very well made distributor and looks great under th...

Re: MSD Pro-Billet advice please
I took the car out over the weekend and it ran really well so common sense would say leave it alone but I know by next winter I will be itching to make further changes. EFIDave, I admit it does look like I am pussy footing my way round by not going to a full-on EFI system; however, I do like the mus...

Re: MSD Pro-Billet advice please
Up until recently I was happy to run without a vac advance hence I went for the MSD Pro-Billet; however, I have since changed my mind. Funny how that often happens. Unfortunately MDS don't make a distributor with a vac advance that fits the Rover (Buick) engine and I do like the look of the MSD unde...

Re: MSD Pro-Billet advice please
Thanks Sidecar. After I posted this I gave it some more thought and I too came to the conclusion that if the RPM is increasing while advancing the timing then surely that is a good thing but of course there is no load on the engine. I'll have another play tomorrow to see at what advance the RPM star...

Re: MSD Pro-Billet advice please
Hi Guys. Its been a while since I have updated this post; however, I have now fitted the MSD Pro-Billet distributor and been playing with the timing. According to Des Hammill tuning book he states that a 4.5 ltr or larger engine will require 10 to 12 degrees initial advance and 28 degrees all in and...

Re: MSD Pro-Billet advice please
I have been reading Des Hammill 'How to power tune Rover V8' for a guide on 4.6 distributor ignition timing. This is where I found the values 10 degrees of initial timing and 28 degrees 'all in' stating that larger engines require less advance than a smaller one. In fact my previous 3.9 ran very wel...

Re: MSD Pro-Billet advice please
Thanks Sidecar for a very comprehensive explanation and will follow your advice and use 3500 rpm as a target for all in advance. I'm pretty sure the dizzy does not come with a vac canister therefore will continue to run without one for now until such time I fancy experimenting with one again. I have...

Re: MSD Pro-Billet advice please
Having searched the internet I have found an MSD instruction sheet for a Pro billet dizzy which answers some of my initial questions. There are 5 advance stop bushings supplied giving max advance curve of 18, 19, 21, 23, 25, 28 + initial advance. So if I want 10 degrees at idle and 28 degrees 'all i...

MSD Pro-Billet advice please
Guys I have just ordered a PN 8548 MSD Pro-Billet distributor for my Rover 4.6 engine which is sitting in my Dax Rush (740kg). It has 9.75:1 compression and a Stealth cam. According to Des Hammill a 4.6 requires 28 degrees of total advance, so rather than wait for it to arrive then have another dela...
