Re: Failure of stock cast 3.9/4.0 pistons at higher RPM? Or Forged options?

In the BCV8 championship, there is a class that uses standard pistons (and bottom end for that matter), there are around 8-9 cars revving to 6500+, no piston failures that I can remember in the last 6-7 years I have been involved. The cars have around 230bhp, with a mild camashaft and intake and exh...

Distributor Retaining Stud - 50th Anniversary Front Cover

Hi All, Thought i'd ask before getting all the measuring stuff out! I have a 50th Anniversary (I believe) front cover (brand New) that has the hole for the distributor but is not drilled through, but will be for my project. I have had one of these machined before and used successfully but it was a l...

Pipemax Exhaust Software

Hi all, Does anyone have the Pipemax exhaust calculator software? i'm looking to run through some specs and see what it calculates as the ideal exhaust system for a full race engine. I have used various free basic online calculators and they seem to differ a lot. Just thought i'd see if anyone has i...

Re: Race Car Cooling Ideas......

Thanks Guys, I purchased the CWA400 and the controller. The way I see it, it's several times better than the biggest DC pump so can only be an improvement. I am hoping to get the engine back together over the next few months so will let you know the outcome.

Race Car Cooling Ideas......

Hi All, Having a re-think of the cooling system for one of my MGB V8 race cars. This particular car is soon to be fitted with one of our 4.0ltr FPC engines, which produce just north of 400bhp and see constant high RPMs. The general tradition in our series is to fit an aftermarket aluminium radiator ...

If it's of use, all the big power MGB's (including mine) in the BCV8 championship are running crank driven pumps (we superfinish ours which makes them feel a lot better on installation). We are revving to 7500-8000 most gear changes and bearings seem really good on yearly rebuilds. We run around 45-...

ARP Head Studs - Issue!!

All, Has anyone experienced issues with heads lifting using the 124-4003 ARP head stud kits? It appears this is what everyone is selling rather than the later 157-4301 head stud kit which has longer threads. When I bought a head stud kit from Real Steel for 10 bolt heads they appear to have supplied...

Great, thanks for that... Next question - What is the lightest piston/rod combo available. Currently looking at the 6" chevy rod with 305 pistons which I believe are a straight fit to the rods - I understand that the rods need some machining to the big end. This being the case, there appears no diff...

Race Engine Build

Hi All, Going to start building up a spare race engine, my first question is..... I have purchased an interim block, who is best to use to have the bosses drilled for the x-bolts? I'm happy to have my usual guy do the liners and line honing etc but assume getting the holes in the right place may not...

Question, just realised that the feed from the header tank is on the high pressure part of the system (it feeds in just before the hot water goes into the radiator) should it not be on the low pressure side. Would this make much difference?

Ian,

I'm running a holley blue pump which I'm assured is man enough for the job. I have a fuel pressure gauge on the dash which never dips below 3.25 psi....
