Thanks for all the info guys. I have rubber gaskets on the engine now but I'll try new ones and glue them to the covers. Give that a try. If still a worry I'll try the corkers. Engine is still pretty new and was built for me by one of the better shops in the UK so I'd be pretty disappointed if the r...

You're right when you say there are two L shaped drain holes but they're on the upper edge of the heads and so do not come into play when g force builds up and the oil pools along the lower edge. I'm getting oil leaks along the outer edge of the rocker cover gaskets which then drip onto the headers....

Too much oil in rocker covers!

I know this topic has been around for a long time but I need advice. My 4.6 is great for the club level circuit racing I'm doing but the faster I go the more oil is collecting in the rocker covers. I've seen and heard of a number of "fixes". Grub screws in the cylinder head oil passages - what diame...

Wheel question

Does anyone have any experience running Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 wheels in competition?
I'm looking for another set of wheels for my TR7 V8 for circuit racing and want to avoid issues if there out there.

Thanks John but my water pump pulley is the idler and I'd like to get away from that if possible.
I might try searching for alternative crank pulley arrangements and alternator mountings on earlier Rovers.
Cheers!

Gilmer belt drive?

Has anyone used a Gilmer or toothed belt to drive their alternator? I have a 4.6 Rover with "intermediate" serpentine front cover and disturber. As I'm using an electric water pump I don't need a drive to the original pump and the only ancillary I have is the alternator mounted high on the RHS. Pref...

Thanks chaps.
Looks like the Mikalor clamps are destined for the "spares" bin, never to be seen again and old school worm drive clamps are the go.
Once more under the car we go.
Cheers!

Over tightening - I don't think so.
Originally I tightened moderately and have increased since then to try and stop the weeps and leaks but I'm not not getting much joy.

Water leaks - Arrrrgh!

Does anybody out there have any tips to get my shiny, new, high tech silicone hoses to stop leaking? New Samco hoses and Mikalor T-bolt clamps used on my Rover engined race car and it leaks from just about every orifice imaginable! Short of going back the old faithful rubber hoses what can I do? Hel...

The ballast resistor is shown in the distributor installation diagram but the text states that if using the controller to wire the system up using the controller diagram which doesn't show the resistor. We'll see what happens next. Anyway, thanks for all your help on this one chaps and I'll try to u...

That's the one.
Do you recommend running a balast resistor?
Not called up in the 6AL wiring diagram so I haven't installed one.

I just had a look at their website and it seems that since being bought out by MSD they may have changed the designation to VI-6AL. The engine was built for me by V8D with all the goodies so I trust their figures. Once we get the timing set, as I said, more accurately than my dodgy eyeball setup we'...

Definitely a Mallory 6AL which is/was confusing but .... Good tip about the flash settling over 1,000 rpm so we might give that try. Engine was dyno'd at 297hp at the flywheel and we're seeing 179 at the wheels which is a lot less that the usual 30% parasitic loss you'd expect. Thanks for your reply...
