Re: SU HiF6 weird problem on a 3.5 Rover.

Re "I'll D/C stuff one at a time to try and find a culprit.". You may have TWO faults. Personally I'd do it the other way around, block everything and then open then up one by one. TWO faults can be a bugger, and unusual, but it does happen.

Re: SU HiF6 weird problem on a 3.5 Rover.

I'd remove and block all pipes coming from the carbs if I were fault finding this. I've even known a faulty vacuum advance to cause this type of problem, sucking in air, or even cracked pipe between the two. Also any vacuum feed to brake servos or other vacuum devices (my car has vacuum operated hea...

Re: Rover V8 sump sealing.

I saw someone stand a newly rebuilt engine on it's sump, then complain when it leaked.

Could be crankcase pressure blowing them off if they're too small.

In the old days the dealership mechanics were always considered the best, and you could boast that your Jag was always serviced by a jag garage.

That situation changed many years ago.

If it was male to male you couldn't control it's position when fitted. The output might face completely the wrong way, assuming it's going into something solid of course and not just joining two pipes.

I believe modern engines run hotter for reduced emissions - it's why the 4.6 Rover has a hotter stat than previous capacities. I always drill a hole about 4mm in the flange and fit the it with the hole at the top - I reckon it helps get rid of air bubbles behind the stat. Some have a hole and jiggl...

Do you drill a hole in it?
Depends on if I think its needed really so many different applications.
Well I assumed you were talking about your Rover engine when you said "in mine".

You need to check all rotating parts in the front. If you have 180 degrees cover on the water pump, then it could be the alternator or P/S pump causing the squeal. It could even be the idler bearing failing... I just had an alternator front bearing fail, only started squealing for a few days, getti...

I use your option 2, using a Rover P5B thermostat housing on an Offenhauser manifold. My (82') thermostat has a small breather hole as standard, which is positioned at the top, but I also have drilled 3 x 1/8" holes in it. My header tank feeds the bottom hose as standard, and also has a small 1/4" i...

Reading this and other similar reports, I've decided to flush out my OAT (Organic Acid Technology) anti-freeze from my Rover with copper/brass radiator. & replace with 'normal' ethylene glycol stuff, Comma or Bluecol. It's just in case, as I don't fancy pulling the engine out anytime soon just to re...

Could be that with the engine spinning, as the piston is going down, the inlet is drawing air at speed and effectively 'overfilling' the cylinder. So as it starts it's compression stroke the air is already under more than atmospheric pressure. If you measured just the one stroke from piston at botto...
