MGB GT V8 Auto ZF 4HP22

Got a 4HP22 from a Jag along with a bellhousing, torque converter, flex plate etc from a 3.9 Range Rover, has anyone bolted one into a MGB? It's currently got a LT77 and a 3.9V8 but the LT77 is notchy on 2nd/3rd and is getting worse, there's also play in the tail housing bearing, so it needs rebuild...

Is the face at the bottom of the timing cover flat?, the one that the end-plate goes up against. It does sound like a very careful inspection of that might yield a clue. Chris. The oil pump base mount or the face that mates with the sump? The oil is definitely coming from the oil pump area, oil run...

Oil pump leaking after new engine

Recently put a new V8 into a 1993 4 door range rover classic multi-v-belt, which is going pretty well, other than a persistent oil leak from the oil pump base area which manifested as follows; Engine fitted and no leaks for 200 miles Slight weap from oil pump base area (looks like top near gasket) G...

In my 90 (3.5 powered) I simply fitted an in-tank pump for a Range Rover and extended it down to the bottom of the tank by lengthening the support bracket and replacing the standard section of hose with a longer bit of the appropriate grade. Pump part number is PRC8318 - it bolts right in! (well it...

Intake for MGB GT

I'm at the stage of my V8 MGB GT where I need to choose a bonnet and the engine top end parts. I was set on hotwire EFI but the cam I ended up installing was a piper 270 rather than a 270i so I am considering a 4 barrel carb. What intake manifold is likely to fit under the bonnet of an MGB (either t...

Sorry, couldn't make it any bigger

Changed to URL, I need to import all those old images into some gallery software really.

Probably of little relevance anyway tbh.

Thanks, it certainly looks a lot better than when I started! Am I right in thinking I also need a different starter motor as the Land Rover one doesn't fit. I better have a look at steady bars, the reason for building this is fun, and part of that is giving it some stick from a standstill ;) Cheers ...

Thanks for the reply, very informative :) I'm actually quite far into the build now, it's a 1979 BGT so late spec engine bay. I've fitted blue poly bushes to the rear along with a pair of telescopic dampers and anti-tramp bars. The axle has been fitted with the V8 ratio crown wheel & pinion. The spr...

Building a V8 for an MGB

My latest project is a MGB GT that I'm converting to a Rover V8. I have a late Discovery 3.9 engine to use a base but I'm wondering which timing cover and sump I need to use? I have a 3.9 Range Rover timing cover, pulley and sump, will these fit OK? I realise I will need a remote oil filter too. Tha...

Interesting topic as I am pretty much building the same sort of thing, when I've finished chasing the rust!

I was planning on fitting an LSD to the back axle though and was certainly going to use the RV8 style manifolds and possibly exhaust, depending if I can make the exhaust cheaper.

Thanks Rossco,

I replaced all the vacuum hose with new silicone items and replaced all the ignition components before I swapped the engines over, neither had an affect on the running of the LPG system.

Poor Running AG SGI Sequential kit.

Hi all I have a AG SGI type II (I believe) Sequential LPG system fitted to my Range Rover. Under low rev acceleration the engine stutters and seems to have a large flat spot. Engine works fine on petrol. This has been an issue over two different engines, I upgraded the engine last year and the issue...
