4.6RV8 first start
Hi all, Some time ago I bought a second hand 4.6 from a guy on this forum with the intention of rebuilding it and replacing the tired 3.5 lump in my Cobra replica. Long story short - it's taken me ages (a little over 4 years) but last weekend I ran out of reasons not to fire it up and see if it ran,...

I had the same issue. I found a swivel elbow which would screw into the block, and which had enough metal on the other end to cut off and drill and tap to suit an adaptor which the sensor would screw into. There’s just enough room for everything to fit, but it’s tight… The photo shows the two elbows...

Your 'slidey' tube of cardboard is an excellent idea, you are a genius Sir! Thankyou! I can't take credit for that idea though, I learned it from a wise old sage... I can't recall who though!... No wait... it was you!!! Excellent stuff! Heads being skimmed at the moment for composite gaskets. Anyon...

They really need to be slotted - easy job (with the heads off) using a dremel and an ebay burr... Link below shows what I mean - scroll to the bottom...

I used the same kit recently to repair the clutch slave mounting threads in the bellhousing (a previous owner had clearly thought that 5/16UNC and M8 were the same thing). It worked well at the second attempt - first time the helicoil was a bugger to get in and jammed the tool which led to all sorts...

Can I ask what size are the bolts that fit the cam plate Can't remember for certian, but Rimmers say they are 5/16 UNC x 3/4 (as a hex head without countersinking). I expect in this case, 5/16 UNC x 1/2 CSK would do, but I expect I bought them at 3/4 long and then cut them down for maximum thread e...

Rimmer Bros still list both full circle "Cam Retaining Collar" ERR5926 And the part circle type "Camshaft Thrust Plate" ERR2609 I don't know if they still stock them, but I'd assume so... FWIW, I'm running the same gear as Sidecarbod, and countersunk the bolts (I also made my own plate, because I'm ...

Tom, Thanks - got it... Sorry I wasn't clear. I'm going to start off with the conventional stat in the inlet manifold setup, and provide bypass via the heater from the rear of the manifold returning to the bottom hose/pump inlet. I realised when I re-read my post, I'd not made the destinction that t...

My system looks like your option three drawing using a remote thermostat. There are other temp versions of remote thermostats available used on other Landrover/MG's I'm using the 82deg one which seems to keep my engine at between 85 and 90, although creeps up to 95-100 in traffic but I suspect that...

Coolant plumbing options
Quick question for you V8 folks – I have a 4.6 RV8 with an interim front end and Edelbrock intake and carb. I’ve figured out how the bypass cooling flow works in the Range Rover and I’m wondering about the best way to achieve this in the car. The summary is – do I need a dedicated bypass or will the...
