My engine number - 28G00161- doesn't appear on any list I've found so far. Does anybody know what it might be from originally? I was told by the previous owner it was from a military LR, but I'd like it's provenance confirmed.

I've searched everywhere, but can't find my Rover 3.5 carb engine number, 28G00161, in any list. Has anyone got any ideas?. When I bought my Series 3 in 1996, the previous owner said the engine had been transplanted from a military Land Rover. I'd be grateful for any info.
