Re: P38 4.6 Engine upgrade

One comment regarding the stroking the engine. If you increase the stroke you also need another set of rods/pistons. You can´t use the std ones. One option is to use small block Chevy rods and stroker pistons with short compression height. I don´t know if Real Steel still has complete kits available...

Re: Forged pistons and rods

I think that Real Steel catalogue may actually be up to date, judging by all the missing items compared to older printed catalogues that I have at home. Their stroker kits were actually quite interesting. I needed piston rings for one piston and contacted RS. They no longer had them but the code on ...

Re: TA / Wildcat heads

Casting quality looks nice. My heads from ACR are not that nice. I´m assuming there are no guides fitted because seats are missing.

There is a a lot of potential in the heads, should be an easy 300+ hp from a 3,9 litre engine.

Another source of good info: http://forum.britishv8.org/list.php?6 .

Re: TA / Wildcat heads

I am assuming that your Wildcat heads are original from Ian Richardson´s time ? It does not really matter since they all used SBC valve train components. I uploaded some pages of a book "How to power tune Rover V8 engines" by Des Hammill to Google Drive. Here´s a link: https://drive.google.com/drive...

Re: Distributor roll pin

The very cheap one calipers on Ebay are made of plastic or "Composite reinforced" or whatever. Not really what one would call precision instrument

Generally, this is where quality stuff is worth its price in the long run.

TA / Wildcat heads

Out of curiosity, how many TA or Wildcat heads do you guys know of ?

I have a pair of Wildcats on my engine, my mate Timo has too (OK they are being repaired at the moment). Mgbloke has a pair of TA heads.

Any others ?

Re: Engine fails to start after rebuild.

I had similar issues with my new engine. I run an older Haltech ECU with wasted spark. For no apparent reason the engine started poorly, ran only on 6 cyllinders. Previously no issues. Finally it "ran" only on 4 cylinders if you can call it running at all. I had set the valve clearances and suspecte...

Re: MGB V8 EFI Cooling Problem

A question about your top hose: is the hose higher than your rad cap ? It´s hard to see in the photo. Mine did and it never bled the air in the top hose and consequently tended to run hot. A simple hose lead to the expansion tank cured that. The attached pic is a later version with the EFi manifold,...

Serpentine belt drive

Has anyone fitted serpentine belt system on an older Rover V8 engine, i.e. replaced the V-belt pulleys with serpentine versions ? I don´t mean swapping the timing cover and ancillaries from a serpentine engines, just the pulleys ? This is a common swap for american engines but have not seen any kits...

Re: LT77 Gearbox Identification

I ran a LT77 from a 2-litre TR7 behind a 3,5 Rover that eventually got replaced with various versions of 4,6 litre engine. I had no issues with the box even though it is supposed to be the weakest version. I did rebuild it when I built the car in late 90´s. I replaced it last winter with a BMW 6-spe...

Re: max timing for rover v8.....4.6

I had 30 degrees max timing on full throttle with my previous (4.6 litre engine with Merlin heads, just under 11:1 CR). Just after max. torque rpm the timing advances to 32 degrees. I need to check but IIRC from 5000 rpm to 6500 rpm. We gained quite a lot power on rollers by advancing that 2 degrees...
