Re: High Oil Pressure

Compressed air is the best bet, it won't take all that much with no spring behind it. How have you got it stuck closed? Never had that, they always stick open IME.

Re: 5 litre Wildcat stroker motor advice

In performance engines at the highest level, at least for a normally aspirated engine, the trend is towards smaller journals not larger. if boost is involved then strength becomes an issue but otherwise it is not significant. A smaller journal has a much lower bearing surface speed, this results in ...

Re: Newbie 3.5 Engine advice & info please!

It is highly likely your engine has a severely worn camshaft and lifters. These can be completely worn out and the engine will run smoothly but obviously power will be greatly reduced. Can you run a compression test first to see what condition the engine is in overall? If one or two cylinders are ve...

Re: poor piston to valve clearance cures

First things first. What did you set preload to. Ideally you want 0.020 for best rpm potential. if you have more preload there is more chance of the valve hitting the piston when it is running in the event the lifters pump up. If you have had both head and block skimmed it is possible that you need ...

Re: Exhaust manifold temperature.

If you haven't found a solution then forget idle temperatures, if you even them up you will often find big differences at higher rpm. It is far more important to have equal temperatures at the rpm you run regularly.

Re: Failure of stock cast 3.9/4.0 pistons at higher RPM? Or Forged options?

We run 6^ Scat Chevy Rods, narrowed to suit, also need to narrow Chevy bearings to suit. Keith Black Ikon forged pistons built for a stock stroke, stock bore Chevy 305. Piston is 3 thou out of the bore and is flat topped. However we run a 40 thou thick head gasket. This gives around 11-1 compression...

Re: Chevy 305 pistons in Rover v8

They don't line up at all. We run these pistons in a dragster, for or purposes it's no issue as we don't need valve reliefs with a blower cam, I am sure they make a dished forged piston in the same size. You could then put in any reliefs you need to suit your application. The stock 305 pistons on a ...

Tony's pistons are custom, however I have been playing with the numbers for a 5.7 rod engine based on a 4.6 as we have two sets of 5.7 rods available. This will be the rod journals turned down to 2" and offset by 0.050" in the process. With a Keith Black Ikon 305 Chevy forged piston, the stock Chevy...

With ARP studs we have always used 70 ft/lbs and have had zero issues, this is with up to 20 lbs of boost and almost 12-1 compression so I doubt you need more than that on a street application. Of course the bottom row is only torqued to around 25 ft/lbs if you are using them.

The ran air effect at road speeds is insignificant, you will be lucky to see 1/2 lb and then only over 100 mph. As you say the main benefit is that the carb sees the cooler air outside of the engine bay, this is what makes it worthwhile. Just jet the carb as normal and don't worry about any boost re...

Our machine shop always machines liners out. We just had three oversize liners fitted due to a major overheat. I can't see the liners falling out from just heating the block and I seem to recall the blocks were heat treated during manufacture. If this is the case then the heat treat will be lost at ...

The major problem with fretting is that the transfer of metal can result in inconsistent positioning of the mains when removing and refitting. A stud kit alone will not prevent this, we have fretting on our non-crossbolted engines and always use studs at 90 lb/ft torque. One tip from American drag r...

If you have a cam that allows early cylinder filling like a torque oriented camshaft you need a lower compression, if you have a high revving engine you can use a power oriented camshaft with more duration, you are correct in thinking that a torque camshaft will not work with high compression With h...
