Post by Coops »

Hi Pel just finished re-installing the nitrous today,
will i be safe to run 75shot on my engine??
i gather ignition dont need retarding, and will NGK7's plugs be ok?

on the old 3.9 set up i ran 150 nitrous jet - 50 fuel jet how does that sound mate?

Coops!!
Bring it to me so I can flow test the fuel delivery mate.

You wont need to worry about ign retard with a 75 shot on a 4.6 to be honest!

It would be useful to check the nitrous delivery wieght against the petrol flow. This way we can get it right quickly.
Or we could do static testing to get a good baseline?

Hi Pel,
im busy this week,
and hope to be changing the front suspenssion the weekend coming to eliminate this bloody steering wobble,
so maybe able to pop over one evening before the bank holiday weekend, or somewhen over the bank hol?
as the weekend after the bank hol is classic ford day at the pod.

the pump im using is a bosch 044 motorsport pump,

I would recommend investing in a set of NGK '8's.
I ran them in my 4.6 TVR and they worked fine on and off gas.

What fuel pressure do you have? It will be interesting to know what your nitrous/fuel ratio is also

hi mate,
i have 8's here also,
what model of Ngk you using?

my fuel pressure is 36 psi on the rail, backed up with a 200ltr /hr bosch 044 motorsport pump,

ratio on old engine was 2:1, not tried it on the 4.6 yet as Pel has my pulsoids for repair.

BP8ES IIRC.
I have the same pump and similar pressure. I leaned my ratio upto 2.5:1 and regularly ran a 150 shot. It wasnt till i ran a 2 stage system with 150 + 100 and made the mistake of activating the lot on the motorway with no retard in the ignition that i got detonation. It was always fine on the dragstrip but i now have a freshly built forged piston engine and will be fittting megasuirt with a switchable nitrous map so stupid mistakes wont happen again

i have the maximiser progressive race controller,
i can use the maximiser to retard the ignition on the Vems ecu if need be etc,

For a 150 shot i would retard 6 degrees. The retard needs to come off the timing throughout the rev range from activation of the nitrous and not just at peak.

What state of tune is your 4.6 in, things like pistons etc. I can't comment on whether a 150 shot will be too much as I'm new to this NOS malarkey, I'm interested because I run a 4.6. (Mind you, yours is a progressive setup I believe??) :D

You should be able to step up to a 150 shot.

A bottle heater and pressure switch will keep the bottle up at a healthier 950psi and more importantly constant.

A single 5mm nylon line from the bottle might not be enough for 150.
I finally got a true 150 shot with twin bottles feeding a y-splitter into the pulsoid.
Keep doing checks on the plugs etc as you step up the power and you should be fine.

My car ran 13.0 @ 106 NA and 11.6 @ 125 best with the 150 shot.

Cheers for the info! Similar to my lump in some respects...but not in others!

Nitrous pulsoid just has fair wear and tear. I'm putting all new insides in both of them. You cant change the seat washer so you fit complete new pistons and o rings.

I'll hopefully get them rebuilt by the weekend as I now have a work bench to play on :)
