Lexus 1UZFE into P5B rover

Post by redsunbeam »

My aim is to put the engine and gearbox out of a lexus ls400 into a 1968 rover p5b. I'll only have a week to strip the lexus of everything i need to get it in and running. Has anyone got any experience with these engines with regard to whats needed to get it to run.??

Hi redunbeam

took me a bit to find it again, but think i have come up trumps for you. On the LRO one guy has put a lexus block into a range rover classic. take a look i think it will help a lot.

I'd imagine wiring would be the hardest bit if retaining the original ecu etc

apparently the engine loom and ecu just unplug and are quite straight forward. its the clutch and fly wheel that are the problem.
follow link above most is explained.

Post up pics of progress. I bought an LS400 mk 4 recently and have been most impressed with the engine so far. Make sure you do the cam belt and ancilleries when the engine is out (if it is needed).

Best of luck! Should be a great conversion, just hope it fits OK - a very wide engine at the best of times! :)

Make a brilliant car at the end of it though, look forward to seeing the end result! :D

I'm a bit lost- the engine doesn't seem to have "Rover", "Ford", "Chevy" or "Mopar" stamped on it??? :?

Spent the last week or so identifying the wires i need in the new loom, with that done its time to get the engine out, and see how big a job its going to be,
Image
Old rover v8 and new 1UZFE together. At this point the new engine looked HUGE.
Next step is to throw it in the hole,
Image
Am going to have to convert the steering to rack and pinion as the steering box was in the way, and the sub frame will need massaging to give a bit of clearance, but on the whole not too big a job.

if you need to have the sump at the rear for subframe clearance, you can use the sump of the soarer as its all at the rear, where the ls400 is mid or front mounted...a guy i know also does the wiring on these engine swaps he charges 250.00 plus petrol to come to you...good luck...
