vac pipes, rover 3.5 V8

Post by camaroneil »

fitted a rover V8 into my old mgbgt,
the problem is, i'm not sure where a few pipes should go,

first in on the front of the riser (where the carbs bolt onto) on the inlet manifold,
it has a rubber pipe then goes to a nut thingy which has a tag on it saying "long nut to manifold", does this go to the dizzy vac advance?

second is just behind the riser, a big bajo looking bolt with a small pipe coming out,

lastly is on the back of the block pointing upwards,

many thanks,
neil

OK. If I'm understanding you correctly??!

- The small pipe at the top of the inlet manifold on the bit between the carbs pointing forward is part of the water jacket. It is a bleed pipe and should go to the top of the radiator.

- Big banjo bolt is the vacuum feed to the automatic transmission. Blank off if not needed

- Back of the block pointing upwards is a breather. Not sure where the pipe should go to.

thanks for that chris,
all that makes sense,

the one you say is for the top of the radiator,
i've got that one sorted, it's the smaller one directly underneath that that i'm stuck on,

where does the vac advance pipe come from?
is it manifold or ported?

thanks,
neil

Hello Neil,

Rover made a few different inlet manifolds designed for carburettors.
As a starter, what is the engine number please?
What type of carburettors are fitted?

With SU carburettor, the vacuum pipe for the vacuum advance on the distributor comes off the actual carburettor, not off the manifold.

The pipe at the back of the engine, exiting from the R/H rear of the lifter gallery just near the rocker cover.......is a crankcase breather. You fit a fuel filter or similar via rubber hose onto it as air is drawn down into the engine at this point.

What type of rocker covers are fitted?

Hi Neil,

Re the banjo bolt - does it sit where the plug is on this pic?

Manifold Port

The port was used on export P6B's for emission control kit.

If you don't want the banjo bolt, I'll swap you for the plug! The bolt (I think) is obsolete & I'd like one as a feed for a vacuum gauge.
