The bit about the States sounds interesting

Do you have prices on shipping a car bac and forth and also insurance - presumably they had to "extend" your UK policy to cover USA driving.

Just a bunch of GT40 guys were thinking of doing a coast to coast one year!

Ian

The shipping costs about £1000 each way all in, and it takes about 10 dyas, that is from Southampton to Baltimore.

The insurance was almost impossible to get but I have found a company that has covered me for $313 for 5 weeks.

The UK companies won't cover the states. Most US companies won't cover non locals. I am insured here in the UK with an American classic car company and even they couldn't help.

I'd be up for this but probably only as a spectator, as Powerstation struggled to get anything meaningful from my auto last time.

Great place Marlin though, did an ace job RR'ing my previous (manual) Corvette.

Always some great kit drifting about too! :)

I'm going to visit him soon to see if the dakar will fit.
I reckon i could hold it in 2nd gear for the power run - as i know the ratios to work out the power.

Been down to see Martin today, great chap. Dakar fitted and got a few power runs with my autobox - no problems.

Puts down 230 wheels, calculated back to 370 at the fly. Considering it exactly matches a Jaguar 4.2XJR on the road, which puts out about that much power and weighs the same - I would say its about right.

Martin wants to know when we are all coming down.

Yeah, what happened was a stuck wide open throttle, me with a friend's son on board approaching Quarry with no run off and in front of a group of desperate buggers driving bike-engined Minis. I had no choice but to get to a safe place to let them overtake because of my passenger and by that time the low oil pressure coupled with a minute's worth of 1000+ rpm over the design revs led to #7 and #8 big end shells extruding themselves sideways out of the conrods. Hey it's a Chevy, it was a bit clanky but it got me back to the pits and would probably be good for another 10k

I looked at a rebuild but with bits of shell infesting every nook and cranny of the block along with a shagged crank, defunct con rods and the most knackered oil pump you have ever seen I decided (very bravely) to tell her indoors (one day she will speak to me again  ) that I was raiding the holiday and conservatory fund for a new motor. Knowing Daryl from Fastco and the fact he had a built 383 that another customer had defaulted on led me to order this baby

I've had to re-spec the sump, the water pump, the alternator, the inlet, carb and filter and the fuel pump to get in in the Healey and hopefully it will be installed end-July / early August 8)
