Engine Breather with supercharging

Post by Coops »

im still up in arms over my breathers on the RV8 with the supercharger,
At present it goes to a catch can where it vents to air via a filter,
but at idle you get loads of fumes out of the filter and can smell it in the car,
any ideas what I can do to stop this????

Run a hose from the filter connection to under the engine bay.

Hi
put a venturi tap thingy into the exhaust, connect the out pipe of the catch can to it and send the fumes out the back of the car well past your nose.
Best regards

Basically this.

just route a hose somewhere clear of the cabin.

You can try the extractor thing, but if it is efficient, you'd need to be sure it doesnt pull any oil out too.

I just run a hose from the rocker covers back under the car and drops down near the gearbox.

Whilst that is the legal route.....it isnt always the preferred route unless you can ensure there is no oil or oil mist passed.

I run it just like it suppose to. Breather on one valve cover, flame trap - catch can - intake manifold from the other valve cover.
Run it this way on my home build supercharged V8 as well on my home build turbo charged V6.

Under boost, the flame trap closes so no suction of oil fumes into the mixture.

While cruising no oil fumes into the car like it should.

As Mike suggested:

http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/s ... /overview/

It says for use with non muffled exhausts only but should still work on a well designed road exhaust.

That one that was on when the Cappa left the factory.
Modifiet a valve cover so it uses a Capri grommet and flametrap ( PCV valve ).
I cut of the breathing pipe on the left side cover and made a hole big enough to receive the Capri's grommet and in went the pcv valve/flame trap.
