Prop shaft length, ie spline depth?

Post by jonny m »

My works welders and lathe guys are about to splice my Land Rover & Scimiter prop shafts; they're more than capable, but I will need to balance after.

My question is in relation to the total length of the shaft in relation to the Rover splined UJ:

The spline bit slides in; from a static position, with about 1.5" of non-spline bare shaft. I'm guessing the bare shaft wants to be half in and half out of the female splined part of the tube, ie room to flex either way.

Am I right?

I wouldn't take that as a given if I were you. To get an
accurate idea of how far in/out you would need to see how the suspension moves and the effect it has on the driveshaft as it moves.
Cheers,
John
