borgwarner type 65 gearbox

Post by roger doger »

How do I convert a borgwarner type 65 gearbox from a jaguar to fit a rover 3.5 v8 engine?

Thanks

Probably easier to just buy an SD1 box. And sell on the Jag one. Unless you already have the parts needed to convert it.

IMHO, if it's a standard 3.5 and for road use, the later GM SD1 box is miles better.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your info, but the car the engine is in is a Morris 8 1936 and a standard box won't fit, so the Borgwarner type 65 box has to be used.

Which box do you mean by 'standard'?

Just change the bellhousing from the Jag one to a Rover one. The Jag converter will fit straight on to the Rover flexplate so doesn't need changing.

If you can find a bell housing on its own.

hi,

Thanks for the info, is it a Rover autobox bellhousing that I need not a manual bellhousing (sorry to be so thick)?

Yes. Which is why I said you might have problems finding one on its own. Complete SD1 boxes are common enough and not that expensive. So I'm not quite clear why you want to convert a Jag one?
