My Twin Plenum Conversion (taken from old forum 2006)
Session1 1 Jan 2006,
Well today i bit the bullet and decided to get my arse into gear and get on with the car,
Started by porting out the original hotwire manifold base to match the Twin plenum trumpet base,
as you can see the hotwire manifold needs opening out to match,
The start of the port opening,
4hrs later we get this,
The trumpet outlet on the TP is 42mm and the hotwire trumpet outlet is 38mm,
and the Twin plenum base left and standard hotwire trumpet base on the right,
Only bad news is on sorting out a stuck throttle (thread on shaft fooked under lock nut),
upon removal the shaft broke,
any one got a spare one??? its the one for the TPS,
It comes from one of theses:
Session 2 Jan 2006,
Spent today sorting out converting the twin plenum from running an over run valve to the hotwire stepper motor set up,
making up the water hoses,
sorting out the throttle linkage,
and fitting the hot wire breathers to the TP trumpet base,
Over run valve-stepper conversion.
First remove the over run valve,
Then remove the fuel reg vacuum pipe stub so the stepper housing can be fitted (the stepper housing has an air way that lines up where the stub would of been),
I offered up the stepper housing and had to file the 3 holes in the housing a fraction so every thing lined up with the vacuum hole
while sorting the stepper out i made a blanking plate for the old cold start injector mounting,
Breathers:
On the side of the TP trumpet base i noticed a blanking plug that looked like the same as the hotwire base,
I removed the plug from the TP manifold, and then gently removed the breather stub from the hotwire one,
applied a drop of bearing-stud fix fluid and tapped it into the hole on the TP base,
just need to blank off one of the larger outlets which would go to the original extra air valve, any one know of any rubber blanking stubs to block of pipes? (if you look in the picture for the cold start blanking plate it's the breather stub to the right at bottom of the pic))
Water pipes:
Water pipes were straight forward, just conected up to the O/E water lines,
Throttle Linkage:
I used the original Twin plenum linkage set up and Sd1 efi cable,
Finnished Plenum:
When finnished it looks like this with hoses etc connected,
The breather hose to stepper can do with being shortened,
you can see the water pipe coming from plenum and going back under,
Side view of trumpets,
Session 3 Feb 2006,
Vems Ecu:
Thanks to Richard and Rob (phat transmissions)[:D], for getting the VEM's ecu to me today, now comes the fun of the install and tunning,
The new silicone vacuum hose arrived at last,
had to do a few mods to the securing nut to suit the larger diameter hose,
(it's only 4mm id BUT has a 3mm wall thickness)
Top view of ecu and hose,
Ally mounting bracket which was made at work [;)]
Inside view of ecu mounting bracket, with foam insert strips,

yes mate that was the whole idea of using the hotwire manifold base,

Modern standard sized injectors dont fit the flapper manifold. This can make getting new injectors difficult and expensive.Duke_Thrust wrote:Ah sorry, larger capacity?
What are the differences between the hotwire manifold and the flapper?
(Mine has been ported and matches my 45mm trumpets so I'd like to contiune using it and not the hotwire one ported and matched)
Really useful thread though, cheers!!

Arh, i allready have an adjustable fuel reg on the flapper, will use that on hotwire. Wonder if i could tig a fitting into the end of the rail, gotta cut n shut the passenger rail so it comes closer to the manifold as it fowls my bulkhead, so if i gotta tig that may as well tigg something onto the end of the other rail.
