How much can it take?!?!

Post by topcatcustom »

Would anyone like to hazard a guess as to how much nos a 460 BBF or BBC could take? Also what simple engine mods are best to do to make it more reliable and less stressed? Also what about the ol Jag V12's? Have seen them put 200bhp in one on top gear but dont know whether the engine could take a lot more or not?

Just thinking about the possibility of stripping out an XJS and putting a nice BB in it, must have a lot more power than the V12... Have always wanted to see one with big fat wheels on the drag strip

This says 300bhp+ for BBC standard block and 500bhp+ for 'improved' engine :D

with a Big block with the right heads and cam (and bottom end) you are talking alot, when you say BBC you are looking at a capacity from about 454ci to 572ci in crate engine form from GM.
Say you are going for a reasonable spec 572ci (about 9.4 litres) running say 850 bhp n/a on a very mild drag spec engine you could probably expect to sove another 400 to 500bhp into it as a nitrous shot into square port aftermarket heads, alot more with the right cam, heads and bottom end. Similar but in proportion to displacment for the 460 ford. How many bhp do you want?

It would probably be a 460ci mike, what can I expect on a budget build bhp wise?

Hi
I've posted against your other thread mainly on BBCs, but a 460, bored out +60 or +80standard botom end aftermarket forged pistons and decent aftermarket heads then and a suitable cam then well over 750 bhp plus the nitrous, you really need aftermarket rods aswell as the engine is not head flow limited the way small blocks are. Stick on a +350 shot of gas and you will need a forged crank and a bottom end brace. These engines are a different game
