Vernier pulley

Post by Andrewrv8 »

I'm just getting my 3.9 ready, installing cam etc, had the cam machined to accept the retaining plate, all OK so far. Now the vernier pulley is fouling the retaining plate. This is not right at all.
Have I missed something or can I not use a vernier set with the cam retaining plate? Alternatively I could discard the plate and fit the Teflon button?
I'd appreciate any thoughts on this , cheers

yes you can get it to fit. There are two types of plate, one banana shape and one circular. The circular one will fit with fettling. The two bolt heads foul with the locking bolts.
Grind the heads down and shorten the locking bolts.
Worked for me.

Well no, the pulley is tight against the retaining plate, that's without bolts so can't see this working out. And the Allen bolts on the pulley are flush. So as coops said probably the wrong set😭

I had this same problem,
the one I'm using is a kent one now from RPI (only ones who stoked it at the time)
will try and find you a part number

S29 is the only part number I can find now so looks like they only do the one pulley that fits the later engines but can be used on the earlier ones too,

I will try and find my box tomorrow in the garage to see the number on that but I think its S29

I dumped the vernier type when it fouled and used the John Eales multi key type.

s29 is definitely the part number, the only stockist that comes up is Rally design. I will get in touch with them, and according to the kent website it does fit the 3.9 and later engines. So thanks for that, without the forum I'd have problems. :?

I'm not getting the same search results for some reason, larkspeed also can supply, but rally design is the best price so far. This is a kit with chain and crank sprocket? I do hope so, because I've listed the other set on ebay

Oh I do like the P6 in your link Andrewrv8

I built one that looked a bit like that, back in day - haven't got any pics of the finished car though :( - here are a couple of pics during the build, prior to the alloys, and finishing off of the painting

Thanks for that 😊 I sadly sold Ruby about two weeks ago after about nine years, I'd have her back in a heartbeat. My creation, with a little help from longbridge haha. Yes looking very similar to yours. Great cars👍
