Sump sealant etc

Post by gd302 »

Im gathering bits and info for assembling my 4.6 engine and wanted to know the best approach when it comes to the sump.
Use a cork gasket and stick it to the sump overnight or just go with a good quality sealant on its own?
Ive read about sealing the rearmost 2 bolts, maybe I will put some studs in here to aid alignment.
Any tips are appreciated, same questions go for the water pump and front covers.

I still like Blue Hylomar since it was the original for things like the water pump, and is easily cleaned off with thinners. The sump I dunno as being a steel pressing distorts easily.

I went for a sump gasket that is guaranteed not to leak. It does but perhaps just by a bit and needs wiping off every so often.

Are you using the pressed steel sump?, or cast ally sump?

there is a rubber that i use....but you cant use it with the GEMS timning cover as the front holes are different.

But if you have the old rover v8 sump pattern like me....then here it is.

i have one on my 4.6, just don't over tighten it, as it can crush, but its re-useable too.

regards

scott

It was a few years ago and off the internet. I cannot find the receipt now but I kept on searching and found this rubber one where they said it would never leak. Not very helpful, I know
