Engine number 46A
Hi folks, I've got a Westie Seight with an engine number 46A00161A. Any ideas what it came from ? I've looked at loads of lists and can't find any reference to the 46A series.

Hi
If it's a 4.6 block it will have cross bolts holding the main bearing caps in place. Having said that so does the 4.0 and the intermediate 3.9
Unless someone knows different I'm not aware of an external difference between the 4.0 and 4.6 blocks.
For certainty you could drop the sump off, if its a 4.6 the crank will have 4.6 stamped into it.

Thanks again Rossco. Just done an oil change so don't fancy starting again so I can drop the sump 🤔 I've not really got the time or the ability to get too far into the depths of the engine, although I would have done when younger. (I don't bend in the middle as well as I used to ☹️). Guess l'll just have to keep looking at numbers for now.

Thanks Chris. I had somehow hoped the prefix '46' might have meant it was a 4.6 but I guess that would be too simple for BL. The registration of my car is '93 but that's just the Sierra donor. I think the car was put together in '03 but that doesn't give an age to the engine.
The conundrum continues.
Thanks again, A
