The fibre material you're discussing is probably TUFNOL.

From experience, the cam driven oil pump is not so good for high rev applications. Myself and two friends have all had the same problem that the shaft wears slightly allowing the gears to touch the side of the pump housing. This contact shaves off very small particles of ally which jam the pressure relief piston resulting in pressure loss.
Check the edges of the gears, they should be smooth as should the housing walls. I tried a tadpole valve but made no difference.
When I changed to the crank driven timing cover I fitted an electric water pump to overcome the counter rotating water pump.
