Rover 3.5/88mm '95/'97/'98 service block identification?

Post by Gasket »

Hi folks.

In Des Hammil's book he talks about the batch of 88.9mm/3.5l Rover V8 blocks that were manufactured in 95, 97 and 98.

These are the ones that had some of the features of the later Interim and '38A castings.

Physically, the big giveaway should be the untapped bosses on the side that can be used for cross bolting and 10-bolt head fixings.

I'm looking to track down and buy one of these blocks, but don't know where to look. I already have a 46D block that I intended to use for my next engine build, but want to keep it 3.5l.

Is there a specific engine number prefix? (I have checked the sticky) Or a casting/part number? Or a particular vehicle (I'm guessing from a low volume manufacturer) that used them?

There may even be a nickname for these blocks on the forums that I don't know, even knowing this could help me se the search function.

Any help would be very much appreciated - I'll post an ad in the wanted section soon.
