9.5ins to 10.5ins clutch difference?
hello all,
Got the opportunity to change from my present 9.5ins clutch to a 10.5ins size clutch, in my westfield on my 4.6 v8.
But what benefits would this give me?
I done about 475miles on the 9.5ins clutch and cant say I didn't do the job, even with close to 300bhp.....so do I need to 10.5ins clutch?....would it be worth changing.
Present GEMS flywheel is drilled for 9.5ins & 10.5 clutch, so not much work to do to change, maybe a re-balance.
cheers
scott

nothing wrong with my 9.5ins clutch, worked fine in the passed.
Clutch plate does hang off internal diameter of flywheel by about 5mm, as its meant to have a 10.5ins clutch.
I'm having some other engine work done, which will end up in a re-balance, so thought do I now fit a bigger clutch, as i'm also changing to a T5 gearbox, so I can now fit one in.
Nothing worse than wishing I have done something.......after the engine is done......
Thought I better ask and satisfy my own curiosity.....
regards

If the current clutch is fine, grips, drives nicely etc etc, then I really cannot see any reason to change.
All you're doing is adding a heavier friction disc for the synchros to deal with, and also through diameter alone adding weight to the flywheel/clutch combined mass, and weight at the outer diameters that can be felt the most ( although to be fair it is probably such a small amount it'd hardly make much odds )
But in a lightweight vehicle, why add mass for no reason ?

I'm putting over 400 through mine,
it does get a little slippy after a good days racing at the pod, but that's due to the slicks lol,
its fine on the way back home again, think mine gets a little hot lol.

Chesman's have now pocketed my pistons...
and in 3 wks I'm taking the rest for a re-balance.
was done a few years back at a place in York, but I want to make sure this rebuild is as good as it can be.
Which is why I asked about the clutch in the first place, I'm spending a lot of money on this build about 4k.....and what to make sure I get what I want out of it.....
for the moment I am sticking with the 9.5ins clutch I have.
