AP hydraulic concentric slave bearing

Post by Seight-V8 »

hello all,

Silly question maybe...but I cant find the answer.

My AP concentric throw-out bearing CP6859-54 has just arrived....

It has two ports on in, I am presuming on is for the hydraulic pipe, and the other is for a bleed nipple.

But its not been supplied with a nipple, just two empty ports.

Instructions do not say anything other than they are M10 hydraulic connections.

I've found a picture here.....that has two hydraulic pipes attached....where does the second one connect to in this case?.

cheers

It looks like one pipe has a bleed nipple on the end so the other pipe will go to the clutch master cylinder.

ah...so the second pipe, has the bleed nipple on the end, but remote from the slave bearing housing.......make sense now.

As how would you bleed it when its installed in the car.....and in the bell housing....

Knew it was a stupid question....and the answer was there somewhere.

cheers

I used a cp3859-54 on mine so very similar. Yes bleed nipple on end of hose, I got Earls to make up a hose for me with a bleed on the end. Don't forget the bleed port on the slave is the one that sits highest when installed or it is with mine.

Edit:
Here is my original Saab slave (pile of crap):

Here's my AP slave:

yes that's the same one as I just bought.

I'll have to have a make up spacer under the bearing housing, as I'm using the TVR bell housing, I've drawn up a cad model of the set up, and just need to get the gearbox nose cut down and the spacer made next.

Thinking off using braided hose on mine though, just for ease...

Did you use copper pipe all the way to the master cylinder?

No, copper from the slave and through the bellhousing to a bracket i made up that is bolted to the bellhousing then from there to the master is braided.
Braided would have been a lot simpler!

And although it adds expense, a quick disconnect coupler on the supply line to the salve is a very handy thing to have.

Especially if you foresee things coming apart again.

Does anyone know the recommended slave cylinder size to use the with AP CP6859 concentric slave bearing.

I have a girling 0.75ins one at the moment, and thinking it might be a little to large for the bearing?

cheers

Depends on pedal/rod travel ratio too.

Cant for the life of me remember what I fitted but i 'think' i went down in size in order to get an easier pedal - bigger bore means short travel and harder pedal, i think, but it's past my bedtime!

It's still fairly stiff with the 'green spring' clutch cover.
