What RV8 carb/manifold to clear a low bonnet?

Post by V8aholic »

Can anyone recommend the lowest inlet manifold/carburetor combination for a Rover V8 to clear a low bonnet line. I'd use an EFi option, but I suspect a carb set-up will be the lowest.

If all fails I'll have to cut the bonnet, but I really don't want to do that.

The Offenhauser manifold with an Holley 390 and a lowered
air filter in 2.5" is the lowest combination.

The Vitesse EFI manifold is higher but can be lowered by milling
the manifold towords the plenum surface until plenum sits on
the fuel rail. The water heat under the throttle plate must be
removed to clear the valve cover.

This is the minimum height of the EFI plenum:

Just remembered and wanted to add that there are throttle body injection
systems with 4-barrel that have the Holley pattern and height and so fits
on the Offenhauser manifold. I bought a 2-barrel 670cfm TBI system and milled off the
SU manifold to get rid of the dome and had an aluminium plate welded on the
manifold to accept the TBI. They can be combined with any EFI, I had

Can you not use a webber 500 on an rpm manifold and a dropped base air filter?
You can get some fairly decent units for not a lot of money.
What clearance do you have have you measured it at all?

PS Im such a knob and have just read the other post!
Getting old is what that is.
A height measurement would be good though
