What antifreeze ?

Post by Devonrod »

What do you guys use in your RV8 ? I put new Blue in mine with distilled water and it attacked the water pump when stripped down after only a few months, turning the hose ends white, I have a copper/brass radiator and have read you cant use the red antifreeze as it attacks copper, any ideas.

You cannot use the pink because you have copper.
Could try www.evanscoolants.co.uk though.

What make of antifreeze was this? And how old?
You can't go by colour alone. The first antifreeze I remember was Smiths Bluecol and that was blue - hence the name. But not suitable for ally engines.
The one which was from the same company was green.

The usual active substance in one suitable for an RV8 cooling system with copper rad is mono ethylene glycol.

I am not particular what brand of antifreeze I use. However I always use a ethylene glycol based type. I never buy it ready mixed ( more expensive ) but mix it 50/50 with any branded drinking water or distilled - seems to work fine - cooling system always clean.
