Serpentine drive belt?

Post by mgbloke »

Hi All, can anyone answer my question please?
At the moment my crank pulley only drives a small alternator. (v belt) and I am using a Davies Craig electric water pump.
I am planning to fit a Serpentine type crank pulley to my intermediate cover along with the counter rotating water pump and a 120A serpentine alternator. I will be making my own alternator bracket so will need a much shorter belt than standard. Belt adjustment will be by traditional adjustable stay on alternator.

What type of belt do I need to order and where can I get one.

Thanks in advance

Mark

Very easy answer is a motor factors that specialises in belts. I've bought several from a local place and basically the length in mm (rounded) is the first number and the second character is width / pattern of belt being, say, a V. Just ask them. Loads of belts in their catalogue.

My local place is http://www.abec-apollo.co.uk in Crawley.

They are a lot cheaper than trying to go to a retailer.

My set up is I think similar to your proposal. The alternator is in front of the off side rocker cover and the belt runs over the alternator pulley then under the water pump pulley and then round the underside of the crank pulley.
The belt I use is a 7pk1043. You can check what length you need with a piece of string traced around the pulleys. The 1043 in the number is the length in mm of the belt.

Different crank pulley's vary in length so you may need a spacer to take up the difference.
Just need to order a 7PK (7 rib) then the length in MM from your local motor factor, if its not on the shelf they can order it in.

Can I ask why you're going from electric craig davies to mechanical water pump?
