Hi
How much more flow have you seen from all this work? Just for all the welding and modifying wouldn't it have been easier to do a March style port over valve set up where you bore a big hole in from of the head at the top of the cylinder head and build a port from 1/4" wall pipe? and block off the original port?
best regards
Mike

Mine will be in st/st,but you can get them in mild steel

Sorry if I have come a little late to this thread - but was wondering what you were going to do about the valves?? Are you going the standard 1.7 inch inlet route?? Or offsetting valve guides and going for larger??? This is what Dave Vizzard did.
Spent so much on trial and error!

I think i will go for 1.73" inlet and 1.5" exhaust.
We made one flow bench testing with stage 3 valves (one cylinder), and it will flow 25hp more than stage 3 head.. Exhaust flow mutch more stable.. No turbulance at all.. But valve is to small vs port..

But found that inlet side thoart/valve/bowl resist flow, also valve guide boss (flow almost zero) etc.. Now i ported them away and we machined suitable seats for those valves using STD seats ( to make cost tiny)..
We have to measure my stage 4 head same time as we measure this prototype again with bigger valves.. So i can then compare those heads.

I do this stage 3 porting only for interest.. And see if i go ass up from the tree.
I think those heads will perform similar like buick 300 heads..

I think Vizard head´s use 1.85-2" valve? If i go for this, i have to weld valve bowl also to make port bigger..

Edit:
Those heads inlet flow maxium capacity is approx 0.3" lift to 0.43" lift range..

Exhaust maxium flow range approx 0.27" to 0.43" lift..

Bigger valves would help hi lift flow.. If not, those are hi torque heads..

44mm inlet valve, and fully ported..

44/38mm valves, clearance approx 1mm

Now ready for flow bench testing again, if they outflow my home modded stage 4 heads, i start work..

The TA heads are now bolted to the new 5.0L engine.
Should have it back in the car within a couple of weeks. Then I have to get the manifold downpipe lengthened (as the exhaust bolts on a lot higher)
Exhaust flange fits very well as does the inlet side.
Interestingly there is no need for a valley gasket as an ally sheet covers the lifter gallery. I will cut up a valley gasket to just fit the ports and waterways.
Thank goodness TA have put more thought in than Real Steel did with the merlins. Their Roller rocker setup fits under standard rocker covers.
All looking really good will take some pics soon.

I am a bit stuck as to what size injectors to order. injector size is dependant on max power output and I haven't a clue what that will be.
was thinking about Asnu 450cc from Mr. Injector, really pricey though.

getting closer.

Good news,
Were your piston valve pockets big enough ?

Quite a few of the big HP TVR boys use this company for brand new bigger inj's http://www.fiveomotorsport.com/fuel-injectors/ reasonably priced too 8-) plenty of online sites for spec'ing inj sizing :)

Had to make valve reliefs in pistons slightly deeper.

Thanks for injector info.

Things are progressing slowly.
decided to go with ASNU 450cc injectors from Mr Injector.
here are a few more pics .
Image
You can see the large lip behind where the valve sits. the only porting that I did was to remove this lip and port match to inlet and exhaust manifolds.
Image
This is the 5.0L short engine supplied by V8 developments.
Image
Ready to check clearances.
Image
heads fitted along with rocker gear.
Image

Image
Inlet manifolds fitted with coil packs. Note the alloy valley cover.
Image

Top are the ASNU 450cc injectors which are slightly different than the old ones meaning that I had to modify the throttle bodies slightly to make them fit.

Tomorrow the engine will be fitted back into the MG
Getting close now!!!!!

The shaft mounted rocker setup was set for 0.650 thou of lift and as my cam only has 0.533 thou of lift it meant that the rocker geometry was not quite right. Fitting lash caps on to the valves put everything right! it was either that or have the rocker pedestal skimmed.

Tomorrow I will find out how much higher the exhaust manifolds sit and whether I will need them lengthening to fit under the chassis legs.

Looking forward to first startup and bedding the cam in.

Update!
Why is nothing ever straight forward.
My exhaust manifolds were made for the merlin heads and line up perfectly with the TA ports. But as the casting is taller and generally larger I couldn't even get the manifolds in place without a lot of cutting and shutting.
Anyway exhaust now fits perfectly.
I have now found out that my alternator will not fit as the terminals foul the head. ( it was tight with the merlins )
I cant get the radiator and cooling system hoses fitted until I have sorted the alternator.
Just ordered a small race alternator but it is likely that I will not get it until after the holiday so progress is halted at the moment.
At least I have time to make an additional engine stabilizer in case the torque is too much for the standard MGB GT V8 engine mountings.
Custom Rocker covers are on their way.
Not long now!
