can anyone please tell me what this does/is and how its supposed to operate, thanks Barry

it switches on the choke warning light, once the engine reaches a certain temperature, if the choke is still pulled out.

brilliant, thanks Dave. I couldnt get any sort of reading off it what so ever so it must be knackered anyway, thanks Barry

As said above, it's for the choke light. Called the Otter Switch and apparently prone to failure.

If it's a simple temperature controlled switch, it may not give any reading until it closes when the engine is hot.
