First outing for LS Minor

Post by plastic orange »

I went to Crail Raceway yesterday with my son in my other V8 Minor to see how it would go.
Best run was a 12.9 at 103, but this was taking it easy due to me not knowing how it would react.
It was a bit sideways off the line (no room in car for 2 feet on pedals, so starts from idle), then on re application of power it seemed that front N/S wheel became airborne. Top end was limited by my lack of bottle as the car seems rather flighty with braking done very carefully - seemed like whole car was moving around.
This was just a testing run, so I'll upgrade the brakes, fit a rear anti roll bar, and possibly up the wheel size on front from the 145's on 3 1/2 inch rims I'm currently running. I'm sure it will get into 11's with some handling mods.
My son in the other Minor ran consistent 14.5's at 95 mph - it's on rails.

Great news,
Did you take any video ?
My front tyres are only 145,(upgraded from135) haven't had any problems
Did you check the rear tyre pressures, not the same will do what you experienced !

Nice video's pete, have you tried warming the tyres up with a burn out ? wider tyres will certainly help round corners, I took mine from 145s to 185s, much better car all round
So thats where it went !

Tyres are quite grippy and I can't left foot brake due to lack of room in that area. I also need to upgrade front brakes as they are just standard Cortina discs - non ventilated.
Hopefully get it sorted for next year when I'll hope for 11's
