RV8 core plugs and sealant

Hi All,

Never ending saga!

RV8 3.5, one core plug leaking, now removed and replaced with another, still leaking. Do I use a socket that's smaller than the plug and drift the centre of the plug into place, or do I use a socket that's the same diameter as the plug?

Which is the best plug sealant out of:

Hylotyte Red
Hylomar blue
Dirko HT red ?

All three can gap seal, are high temp and are resistant to anti-freeze

I've tried all sorts of ways. I usually try to rotate the plug by bashing one side, then pulling it. Some of them I've just bashed into the insides first before rotating. Not sure there's a right or wrong way.....

No experience of those 3 sealants you are suggesting.

Chris.

I've used a slightly smaller socket with success before, with Indian Head as sealant.
Actually more of a lubricant, to be honest, a Welsch Plug should seal without any additional product if there is no underlying damage to the block.

Thanks for the replies. Not possible to get a straight strike on the cap due to poor access, which can't help with alignment. I'll probably try the Dirko sealant.
