Commodore A Coupé 1969 (New pic)

Hello here from Denmark.
Here's my good old Opel.
My first engine project was a 2.2 4cyl CIH with Rotrex compressor 1 bar boost pressure and with Megasquirt engine management.
It went pretty well
But I would rather have the sound of a v8 engine, so last winter I began building a Rover V8 engine in.
A 3.5 EFI is converted to 3.9 still with megasquirt management and MSD wastetspark.
Huge work and build it into my car, many hours of work, but it has since been starting up now
Yes there is still much to do, and many wires to be stored away.
And it must have a second Camshaft, the standard sounds too dull. "boring" at idle.

Nice car. It looks a bit 'American', did we ever get them in the UK?

Really cool looking motor you have there.
Chris we did have these over here but not in great numbers, used to see one down in cornwall on a fairly regular basis.

Funny you should say that Pel because it reminded me a bit of the Aussie Valiant Charger I had in the seventies.

Yes it is very similar to a charger, it has the typical american '60s coupe forms.
So therefore there's obviously a V8 engine in
The front and headlights is something I built on. It is not totally original anymore
I'll get some more pictures up of her soon:)

Thats a real nice car ,my father had the opel record 1900cc and Commodore fast back pillarless coupe straight six in the 70`s. We both have owned the Manta A ,both nice cars.
I`ve been after one for a few years but now difficult to find

The only thing missing from the Opel Commodore's was a V8 motor. If only GM had a nice little all aluminium V8 back in 60's they may well have put it in a Commodore......However as most of us know they sold the Buick 215 to Rover. Looks like the engine has come home in your Commodore!
Did you have to reverse the drop on the sump/oil pan to clear the crossmember? I had a Commodore B a few years back which I looked at fitting a v8 into. It came with a 2.8 straight 6 cylinder motor, the sump had the drop at the front of the crossmember and the steering rods behind. Without converting to rack and pinion steering it looked like quite a job to get the Rover engine to fit. In the end I broke the car up -Too much rust-. The front hubs, stub axles and narrowed LSD rear axle are now fitted to my 4.6ltr 1972 V8 Manta A.
Great to see another V8 Opel on here....Well done!

Great looking car - The wife is Danish - Aalborg - and on my first trip over there I was amazed by the the number of two doors cars and coupes - the percentage of two door to four doors was almost reversed to what we find in the UK - and they all look so much cooler - the Taunus/Cortina - even Morris Marina coupes the Consul, Granada coupes etc. Two door Amazon volvo's to my eye almost every mundane day to day saloon we had in the UK look so much better with just two doors. I cannot remeber if it was a Danish car tax thing. I know there is a yellow plate white plate thing about doors and seats or something.

Love the 4 pot rocker cover and the detail work for the closing panel over the rad with the V8 install.

Yes it did take most of a winter and spring to make the conversion here. I thought it would go much faster.
But when it was finally finished, I was satisfied with result.
but when you make such a project here, then time does not matter
It just needs to be tuned in now to be completely finished
Now I started making bigger brakes on it.
Larger brake discs in front.
And brake discs in rear.
yes, there were also big problems with the oil sump and steering.
Now run the steering actually through the oil sump.
I make an image series under "Engine Swaps And Conversions Area"
So you can see what I mean

nice looking car, unusual and subtle very nice. A quick question or three, the MSD coil packs on the car, where did you get them? do you remember about how much they were? and do you have a part number for them? I think they may be the answer to my ignition system !

Hello Mike.
I bought them here at Summit.
These are some real good coils, especially if you have a turbo / super charged engine.
There really is power in them

Hi Martin,
do you need both items when using a megasquirt ECU? just 4 coils at $45 is quite affordable, stick another $156 on the bill stings a bit.

Hello Mike.
No, the bottom "Coil Interface Module" that sits under the coil blaster, you actually not have to use.
It's just a simple little plastic box with two connectors that go into the blaster.
It can easily be replaced by two cables with connectors on, yes they are as expensive as the coils themselves, it makes no sense.
