Hello all,

Got a set of john eales head studs to go with some new cometic head gaskets....

Cometic say install the gasket dry with no sealant but john has suggested a thin layer of hylomar between the layers?

Anyone else used sealant on a cometic gasket to stop oil seepage across the gasket?

And if so where do you use the sealant.

cheers

I have only ever used my cometics dry. I have removed and re used these gaskets 14 times on two different Rover V8's with no leakage issues :)

if the heads/block are machined correctly, no sealant is needed.

If they are not machined correctly...get them machined correctly lol.

Smooth as glass basically.

If you really were busting to use some sealer somewhere, I guess a very small amount of non setting stuff around any oil or waterways.

I have never used any sort of sealant around the main sections of a head gasket but do put a light smear around the water passages.

cheers everyone.

Fitted them dry, so no sealant.....will re-torque them again after then engines first run.

Block & head faces had just be re-skimmed so have a good surface on them, so hoping for no leaks.
