Hi All,

RV8 in a Stag, K&N cone type filter bolted onto each carb, laser thermometer shows that filter temperature is around 65'C after a run with the engine idling and the bonnet up. Is this excessively high? Still lots to fettle, but the engine is noticeably livelier on cooler days.

I'm can probably mount the filters somewhere towards the front of the engine bay.

That temperature will drop when the car is moving. When you actually need the engine power.

My first P6 V8 cut out in a traffic jam on the Exeter bypass on a hot day. Fuel evaporation. Didn't know that at then - by the time the breakdown arrived over an hour later, it had cooled down and started ok. When it happened again under the same sort of circumstances, knew what it was.

Thanks Dave

The float bowls measure at 55'C, is this likely to cause an issue?

Obviously anything you can do to cool the carbs and air they breath down, the better. The factory RV8 carb and Stag had a central air intake to keep it as far away from the hot exhausts as possible. Injection engines had it at the front of the engine, low down.
