Rover V8 rhoads lifters which pushrod end?

Hi, I'm still confused as to which pushrod end should fit my rhoads lifters for the rover V8, 5/32" or 3/16".
The 5/32 fit right into into the bottom of the cup of the lifter, the 3/16 sit in the machined edge of the cup.
Reason I ask is many years ago I had a pushrod and lifter fail and suspected it was the wrong size ball on the pushrod that did it.
