Clutch reversing problem

Hy guys,

Ive been used to using cable clutches in my cars so this is the first time I've used a hydraulic clutch. The clutch pedal seem a lot softer than what I'm used to. So usual checks, bleed nipple positioned on the top of the slave cylinder, can't see any more air bubbles.

I can select all the forward gears no problem but when I try reverse it just won't go in, its grinding the gears!

Anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like the clutch plate is dragging on the flywheel or pressure plate. Is there any way to lengthen the pushrod?

Hydraulic clutches can be "soft" compared to some cable ones, that in and of itself isn't evidence of a problem, IMO.

Bleeding them can also be tricky, particularly if the plumbing is a bit convoluted in it's journey to the slave.
You say the bleed nipple is at the top, but is the slave level? In other words, is the bleed nipple at the highest point? Try taking the slave off and holding it with the nipple high to bleed it. My Moto Guzzi front brakes will NOT bleed if I don't remove the calipers and do that.

You could also consider bleeding it from the bottom to the master cylinder with a big syringe full of brake fluid.

Did you have the tranny off prior to the issue??

In my case it happened to be a bend primary axle. Probably caused during removing the gearbox.

Hi guys, an update to the problem.
Bled the system and still no change, I then lengthend the push rod by 5mm and joy I can get it in gear without crunching the gears! Then dismay what I thought was reverse turns out to be first gear!
So I Believe I can access all the forward gears can't be sure until I'm able to drive it on he road but I'll be dammed if I can find reverse. Am I right in thinking it's hard to the left and forward?

So is this a factory car, using all OEM parts or a conversion using bits ?

Has the clutch ever worked correctly ? Where is the biting point ?
